SISAL21 Project
The SISAL21 project comes within the framework of the INTERREG IIIA France / Spain 2000 – 2006 European program, subsidised by the FEDER. The following regions are participating in the project: Navarre, Gironde, the Bidasoa-Txingudi Consortium and the Council of Hendaye. Trabajos Catastrales, S.A., the public company of the Navarre Government, is also amongst the participants, as a technology partner.
SISAL 21 is a project directed at integrating the information from the different Local Agenda 21s of the French and Spanish regions participating in the initiative. These regions have shown a real commitment to achieving their respective Local Agenda 21 goals. However, up till now, the implementation of these schemes has had a highly variable impact on either side of the Pyrenees.
The SISAL21 project has created a common tool to be used by the municipalities of these border regions, based on common calculation criteria and directed at providing uniform data that can be compared between one region and another.
In addition to this Inter-regional comparability, the common tool will also enable common policies and initiatives to be adopted. The aim is to achieve the sustainability of cities and regions through joint co-operation, by permitting the participation of all local actors, including the general public.
Once the project has finalised, the results obtained could be adopted by other local authorities. The sustainability indicator tool will be completely implementable by any administration interested in doing so.
Finally, the project will help us all work towards achieving increased sustainability in our cities and regions, based on the analysis of these Sustainability Indicators.
